Army prepares to display Dhanush-155 mm Artillery Gun for display in R-Day Parade

LONG-AWAITED induction of indigenously developed 155 mm 45 calibre Dhanush gun in the Indian Army is likely to be declared officially on the occasion of Republic Day. Ministry of Defence has directed the Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata, to prepare ‘Dhanush Gun’ for Republic Day function in New Delhi. “Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) administration has received order from Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata, to prepare Dhanush-155 mm 45 calibre gun for display in Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

Complying with the order, the preparation process has begun and soon it will be transported to New Delhi for Republic Day function. A model of Dhanush gun was exhibited during Republic Day parade in 2015 and for the first time original Dhanush 155 mm artillery gun will be a part of the function,” informed Spokesman and Joint General Manager (JGM) of Gun Carriage Factory, Jabalpur, Sanjay Shrivastava. While talking to ‘The Hitavada’, JGM, Sanjay Shrivastava informed that GCF has already received the order of production of 18 guns but information about its induction in the Indian Army is yet to be confirmed. The factory has already developed six of the 18 guns and rest will be completed during financial year 2017-18. He informed that Dhanush-155 mm gun has successfully accomplished several rounds of firing tests on different phases of high terrain, coastal and extreme climatic conditions. Reports of firing tests were forwarded to higher authorities and confirmation of its induction is still under consideration with competent authorities. Sources informed that it is the first time when Ministry of Defence and Ordnance Factory Board have directed GCF for participation of Dhanush-155 mm gun in Republic Day parade. The factory administration is hopeful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make official declaration for induction of Dhanush in the Indian Army.
